Update From The Warriors & FREEZE!
As of play ending January 31, 2010, the FREEZE and LSJ Warriors teams were finding success on and off the ice. The support from one team to another is evidenced in the growing crowds at Howard Arena for all the teams. The Warriors Varsity and JV teams are playing in front of overflowing crowds and the FREEZE teams are packing them in as well. As schedules allow, many travel to South Bend to view the Warriors Varsity team in action. Competitive play has contributed along with the years of public relations by players, parents, and Board Members alike. Even in losing efforts, the scores are close which provides excitement. The Warriors Varsity team (14-9-6 overall, 4-5-3 league record) has been blazing the trail since their early Bantam years; having started the FREEZE program. Team Michiana (an All-Star Team of League Players) has no less than 6 Warrior players on their 2 rosters. Each Team Michiana group has already won an elite tournament. (Go To Varsity Schedule)
The Warriors JV team (17-5-7 overall, 8-0-4 league) is the only remaining undefeated team in the top tier of the West Michigan JV League. They recently had a 9-game winning streak snapped and are 13-1-4 in their past 18 games. Two years ago, this same group made it to the MAHA Bantam B State Semi-Finals. The JVers have 8 games scheduled at Howard Arena in February. (Go To JV Schedule) The FREEZE Bantams (12-17-0 overall, 7-13-0 league) recently qualified for the MAHA District Tournament Feb. 5-7 in Muskegon as a result of their 7-2 win over the Big Rapids Ice Dogs on January 9. The Bantams hosted the first-ever Lake Effect Outdoor Classic Tournament January 29-31 at Howard Arena. They finished by playing in a spirited Championship Game, only to fall 3-0 to the Lakeland (Detroit) Thunder. (Go To Bantam Schedule) The FREEZE PeeWees (13-7-5 overall, 8-5-3 league) have really developed as a team. Just 2 short years ago, they managed only 1 tie while losing all their other League games. The PeeWees now look forward to competing for the Adray League title in the upcoming playoffs February 13. Their confidence began to soar during Thanksgiving weekend when they finshed 2nd in the Kalamazoo Cup Tournament. (Go To PeeWee Schedule) The FREEZE Squirts (7-12-1 overall, 4-5-1 league) have competed hard. Their record does not indicate the success they've had. While many Associations begin their House B programs at the Mite or Mini-Mite level, this is the current entry-level for the BAHA FREEZE program. Only 4 of the 14 players are 2nd-year Squirts. Also, several of their losses have been by just 1 or 2 goals. This group sparks a lot of confidence for the future of FREEZE and Warriors hockey. Got A Rules Question? "Ask The Ref!" BAHA has the good fortune of having several of its own members as Referees to not only help with games, but to educate fans and participants. Have you ever wondered why the puck travels the length of the ice for "icing" but other times play continues? Why did one player get a 2 minute penalty when another got a 10 AND a 2 minute penalty? For answers to these and any other questions you may have, refer to the OUR REFEREES page of the website or contact our Refs by email at AskTheRef@bahablades.com.
