FREEZE Bantams Reach Final Four BAHA's FREEZE Bantam Team, having captured Michigan's District 6 Championship February 3, played in the State's Final 8 Tournament March 7-9. The FREEZE advanced to the State Semi-Finals by posting a perfect 3-0 record in the Round Robin format of 8 teams. On Friday night, a FREEZE goal with 27 seconds remaining to play broke a 3-3 tie with the Livingston Huskies. Saturday morning the FREEZE easily handled the St. Clair Shores Ice Hawks 4-1. That win prompted FREEZE Head Coach Marty McGrath to later smile and state "We're claiming Third Place in the State of Michigan!" None of the FREEZE supporters could disagree based on the performances of all teams in the Finals and that the Ice Hawks had also reached the Semi-Finals. In the Saturday evening match-up, the Taylor Wild presented a rather physical obstacle to say the least. However, the FREEZE jumped out early and cruised to an 8-5 win in what was actually a meaningless game. They had already qualified for the Semi-Finals. Sunday morning presented a whole new atmosphere as clearly the top four teams had advanced. The FREEZE drew a talented team in the Tawas Thunder. Leading 2-1, the FREEZE appeared to grab a 3-1 edge as the red light glowed and the team celebrated. However, the Head Official failed to see the puck in the net and waived off the goal. Spurred on by that break, Tawas scored the next two goals grabbing a 3-2 lead nearing the end of the second period. But this FREEZE team does not back down. After a stop by the Tawas goalie, the FREEZE pounced on the puck laying by the pads and banged in the rebound. Again the red light went on and the FREEZE celebrated. But again the Head Official did not see the puck in the net and.......still 3-2 Tawas after two. Tawas went on to score two third period goals advancing to the State Finals where they were eventually crowned as State Champs. This group of FREEZErs come home with their heads very high as they went from losing 20 of their first 22 games two seasons ago to nearly taking the State Championship. Fantastic!
The 2007-08 FREEZE Bantams are the first BAHA team to win a District Championship or an Adray League Title.
The FREEZE Bantams will play in Monroe, March 14-16, for their final weekend of play in the State Adray League Finals. Four teams, including the FREEZE, qualified by winning their Adray League Playoffs. The FREEZE represent the West Michigan Division of the League by defeating the Cadillac Vikings at Howard Arena in the Championship game on February 24. LSJ Warriors Reach District Championship Game
